Chinese lessons where children follow stories and share ideas

No drills or rote learning: stories and interaction get children speaking naturally. Listening, speaking, reading and writing develop together from lesson one, with progress parents can see.

How we teach

Language grows through understanding and participation.

Story-led, natural learning

Combining TPRS with IB/AP inquiry-based teaching, everyday stories and picture books get children speaking. No memorisation – they absorb Chinese naturally, like a first language.

00. Before lessons

Initial placement

Before the trial, a language adviser learns about your child's background and needs and recommends a level and pace. Children with some Chinese can take a short assessment to match the best course and teacher.

Three-step tracking

  1. 01. After the first lesson

    First-lesson feedback

After the first lesson, the teacher sends a summary and this week's practice.

  2. 02. Each level

    Progress reports

Mid-level and end-of-level reports on listening, speaking, reading and writing.

  3. 03. End of level

    Level-up assessment

An assessment at the end of each level confirms your child is ready to move up.

Parent communication

  • Parents can post questions in the learning system at any time; teachers and advisers reply with advice for your child.

  • Every lesson comes with a parent guide showing how to help with weekly review – no preparation needed.

Lesson FAQs

How much Chinese is used in class?

Lessons are mainly in Chinese, usually 60–80% in regular courses. In the trial and early lessons, teachers use more English – up to about half – to support understanding, interest and focus. As children adapt, Chinese increases so they understand and use it in real contexts while staying relaxed and confident.

What if my child struggles to focus?

Our teachers keep children engaged with stories and interactive tasks, adapting their approach as needed. Some distraction at first is normal; most children settle in and focus after 2–3 lessons.

What if my child is shy and will not speak?

This is very common. Through stories, interaction and gentle guidance, teachers help children move from repeating to speaking on their own. Most children open up once they feel at home, usually with clear change after 2–4 lessons.

Does my child need to learn characters? Is it too hard?

No. We split character learning into two stages: reading and writing. Young children are not asked to copy characters at first; they build recognition naturally through picture books, stories and interaction. Writing is introduced through games and fun practice once they have a solid base.

How is progress assessed?

We assess listening, speaking, reading and writing, class participation, homework and parent feedback. Regular reports show parents clear progress and help teachers refine their approach.
